What can I say about my stay In Gerlev?
First of all, it might sounds pretty cheap, but I'm
sure that it was one of the best periods in my
life!
Four months without any stress, fears or anger. I had great
opportunities to develop my skills and I tried many things I've
never done before. For me that's the place you CAN do everything
you're really in to and you don't HAVE TO do things you're not
interested in. No one will push you if you don't feel you want to
do more, but if you feel you want to work harder, you can talk
openly to teacher, any time, about your expectation.
The second aspect, the most important one for me of being at
Gerlev, is that both teachers and other students spend all the days
together, seven days a week for four months, you can really
get close to the others. Sometimes it's hard because there's no
place to "run away" and be on your own, but on the other hand, you
never have to be alone. There's always somebody to talk to,
somebody to make you feel better, someone to listen to you if
you're not in so good mood and somebody ready to follow your stupid
ideas:) You can just be yourself, because with people around
you all the time there's no place to pretend to be someone
else.
What I've learned during this four months is how to be more
tolerant about the other's behaviors, of other cultures, and that I
don't have to be afraid of letting people get closer to me and
voicing my personal opinion loudly.
About my DANCE specialty; it doesn't matter if you're a beginner
or if you've danced before, it's all about your approach to things
and what you want to gain during your stay. You have a great
opportunity to try different styles, find one you like the most or
just have fun taking dance classes with the other people. What I've
learned, thanks to the teachers, is what are my weak sides and what
I really have to work on. And even though I can 't see a BIG
improvement YET, at least I know what I need to pay more attention
to to make myself be a better dancer.
One final thing, I'm really really glad that I had the
opportunity to take some classes at Broadway Dance Center in New
York on the Speciality tour with Gerlev. It made me feel that I
shouldn't stop believing in my dreams 'cause sometimes they can
come true:)
