Gerlev Physical Education and Sports Academy in Denmark offers
an international sports leader training course - The International
Sports for All Leader Education - for young students who would like
to spend 17 weeks at Gerlev P.E. and Sports Academy in
Denmark. The course is open to all international
students.
Dates:
Sunday August 21st - Saturday December
17th 2011 - 17 weeks. Please note that the deadline for
applying for the course is May 25th 2011.
Purpose:
The main purpose of this educational program is to offer a
sports leaders education to young European students who wish to
work as youth leaders in areas of sports and culture.
The secondary purpose is a desire to promote international
cooperation between young people from new and existing
EU-countries.
The third purpose is to promote the Global Initiative for Active
Living.
Background - Gerlev P.E. and Sports Academy
The Academy was founded in 1938 as an international highly
respected institution for education of youth leaders for the sport
for all development in Denmark.
The specific goals with the International Sports for All
Leaders Education
The educational program at Gerlev P.E. and Sports Academy will
improve the individual's competence and skills in how
- to improve leaders skills in different
sports e.g. dance, ballgames/basketball, swimming, out-door
activities/adventure, streetmovement/parkour etc.
- to observe sports and teaching methods
in different settings like sports clubs, community programs,
workplaces and schools
- to observe and teach sports for all
programmes related to specific target groups
- to develop traditional sports games as
a unique learning environment (the Gerlev Historical Sports Games
Park)
- to develop the understanding of
democracy and life philosophy during sport
- to teach and promote teaching methods
in Sports for All
Teaching staff
The international group will meet the teachers and coaches from
Gerlev P.E. and Sports Academy. Beside that instructors from
Gerlev's Historical Sports Games Park are involved
together with researchers from the Institute for research
in Sport, Health and Civil Society, situated in the
academy. Both Institutions are unique in Europe.
Lecturers, coaches and sports politicians from the Parliament
and Sports organizations will also share their knowledge with the
international group
International Certificate
The students who fulfil the 17 weeks International Sports for
All Leaders Education will receive an International Certificate
from Gerlev P.E. and Sports Academy to document and describe the
content of the education.
Language:
The International Sports for All leaders Programme will be held
in English language.
Examples of theoretical lessons:
- Sports and expressive activities,
theory and practice
- Sports pedagogical aspects
- Sports sociology
- Sports psychology
- Sports participation in Denmark and
selected countries
- Democracy as a way of life (visiting
local clubs and sports associations: aim, activities, members,
economy etc)
- Democracy as a way of government
(visit to municipality, region and state/national parliament
etc.)
- Democracy between people and Nations
(Democratic roots in Europe/ Identity and people/ Nationality and
internationality)
- Physical activity, Active
Living-strategies and Health Promotion
During the stay there will be different excursions and cultural
programme out side the Gerlev P.E. and Sports Academy, primarily to
Copenhagen and Odense.
We do expect the students to be highly
motivated with a great commitment.
We expect self-discipline, responsibility and a great deal of
energy. The International Sports for All Leaders Education is based
on a group of minimum 10-12 students.
Price:
Thanks to public funds in Denmark and economical support from
Gerlev P.E. and Sports Academy the international students will have
the opportunity to pay no more than:
- Tuition fee - please contact the office for a reduced
price
- DKK 2,500 for teaching materials
- DKK 3,700 for adventure trip abroad (mandatory)
- for those students who select the dance education there will
also be a tour at an amount of DKK 7,800 to New York. This study
tour is not mandatory for international students.
- for those students who select the streetmovement education
there will be an additional cost of DKK 4,900 for a study tour to
Paris, London or Lisbon. This study tour is not mandatory for
international students.
- for those students who select the MoveOut education there will
be an additional cost of DKK 3,900 for a study tour to Korsika.
This study tour is not mandatory for international students.
- for those students who select the Basket and Volley/basket
education there will be an additional cost of DKK 3,900 for a study
tour to Southern Europe. This study tour is not mandatory for
international students.
- for those students who select the Fitness education there will
be an additional cost of DKK 750 for a small study tour
(mandatory).
Students must pay their own travelling expenses to and from the
academy - and bring your own pocket money. Students must also
arrange your own health insurance which must cover the first six
weeks of the course. During the rest of the time you will be
covered by the Danish public health insurance system.
The programme covers:
- accommodation in double room (incl.
cover sheets, etc.)
- daily food - 3 meals a day + 2 tea-
and coffee-breaks
- the educational programme at Gerlev
P.E. and Sports Academy
- all transportation to local or
regional study tours in Denmark incl. cultural introduction to
Danish historical and cultural sites
- textbooks and study materials
- Gerlev jacket and T-shirt
Who can apply?
o You have to be 18 years old or more
o You have to be interested in sport as performer or P.E.
student
o You have to be able to communicate well in English - spoken
and written
o It is absolutely necessary that you do not have long term
injuries or other health problems when beginning the
course.
